t’s been some time since the Station House Hotel served the purpose indicated by its name; the hotel guests of the 21st century can thank the railway architects of the 19th for this lovely family-owned boutique hotel. It’s set in the village of Kilmessan, in the Boyne Valley, less than an hour to the northwest of Dublin, making it as viable for a quick city weekend as for an extended visit. And the hotel itself is certainly worth the trip: this lovely historical structure retains its antique charm while its interiors are a contemporary interpretation of classic country-house style.Most of the rooms and suites are in the main house, while the old locomotive workshop has been converted into a carriage house of sorts, whose rooms are no less stylish and no less luxe. Meanwhile the Signal Restaurant serves dinner five nights a week, with the Platform Bar & Lounge filling in on Mondays and Tuesdays; both serve dishes crafted from fresh Boyne Valley ingredients.
