In fact safari lodges, in South Africa or anywhere else, don’t get much more plush or more stylish than Karula. Here contemporary architecture and design meet hand-crafted rustic textures to dramatic effect. Each villa features plentiful indoor and outdoor lounge space, and there’s a common bar and lounge for a bit more sociability, as well as a restaurant serving fine locally inspired fare. Game drives, naturally, are the primary activity, though the lodge’s spa makes a compelling case for an afternoon off.
