Less obvious is where to find a bit of high-end contemporary hospitality — but within a stately 19th-century building in the heart of the old town is the Kaiserhof, a century-old hotel that’s evolved over the years into a thoroughly modern luxury boutique hotel.

Thus its history remains on display, but not preserved in amber.
