lorian Stoppany built the Hotel Pontresina in 1881 on the foundations of an old village guest house, expanded it into a palace hotel in 1895, and watched it spiral into financial difficulty in the 1930s. The bank took it over, it was reborn as a sports hotel in 1936, and Swiss Army troops moved in during the Second World War. The Pampel family has run it since 1982, now in its second generation under Nicole and Alexander. The Art Nouveau building has 85 rooms and three restaurants, a rooftop spa looking out over the Roseg valley toward Piz Palü, and a solar installation added in 2024 that now produces the hotel's own electricity.
