rovidenciales is more than pleasant enough, but a short hop away by boat is Pine Cay, a private island less than two miles long and one mile wide. Here, on a long stretch of beach for which the word “idyllic” seems somehow inadequate, is a vanishingly small luxury resort: just a dozen rooms and suites tucked in between the impossible turquoise waters and 800 acres of wild nature.

With a maximum of about 30 guests, the atmosphere is guaranteed to be tranquil; there’s no TV, and motorized water sports are laughably out of the question. A spa offers open-air treatments, and the clear water that surrounds Pine Cay makes for excellent snorkelling and diving. Meanwhile the dining options range from the beachfront tiki bar to the chef-led dining room, and the resort’s all-inclusive plan means the only decision is which view appeals most.
