Needless to say, it’s quite unlike anything else in Japan.Its rooms and suites, some beneath the sloping angles of the auberge’s mansard roof, uncannily recall Parisian hotel rooms, but expanded to palatial dimensions made possible by the rural setting. Outside are views not of the Left Bank but of the Tateshina countryside and the mountain peaks in the distance. And Le Jardin, the restaurant, is a devoted tribute to the art of French cooking, complete with a cellar stocked with 2,000 bottles of French wine.
