This lovely little escape lies just over an hour’s drive up the Costa Brava from Barcelona, and then a bit inland — enough to offer day-trip access to the coast while remaining blissfully untroubled by tourism.The heart of the place is a 14th-century stone farmhouse, and a handsome one at that. But the style here is far from medieval. A contemporary design sensibility brightens the rooms and suites with graphic wallpapers and modern furniture; most of the rooms and suites are housed in newer buildings, though a handful are set in the original house, and their up-to-date comforts happily coexist with the weathered stone walls. Breakfast is served outdoors, weather permitting, and with advance notice the Bistro del Sol can prepare dinner for guests as well.
