The latter are a touch more contemporary in style, but only a touch, and there’s no sense of second-class about them.
Among the most welcome contemporary interventions is the spa, which transforms the old stables into a striking modern space featuring an indoor pool under a glass roof. Meanwhile, for dinner, it’s back to classic elegance; the Restaurant at Rookery Hall is handsome in dark wood, and is complemented by the Drawing Room & Bar and the casual Spa Café.
