Healdsburg’s Little Saint is itself unique, a restaurant, café, bar and events venue that hosts astonishingly high-quality touring acts in its intimate performance space. Against that backdrop, the Cottages are easy enough to understand: four small houses transformed by the designer Ken Fulk into spaces that are both comfortable and creatively inspiring.The smallest weighs in at 345 square feet, and is a cozy escape for two — or it can connect with its next-door neighbor to form a three-bedroom getaway. That the two of them, Court and Spark, are collectively named for Joni Mitchell’s 1974 release, says something about the Cottages’ aesthetic. (The others are Gimme Shelter and Déjà Vu.)
And if the cottages themselves are quiet and relatively low-maintenance, that’s because the rest of Little Saint fills in with ample amenities and plenty of sociability. It’s not out of the question that a guest might stay on site for the duration of their stay — but with all of downtown Healdsburg within walking distance, it’s by no means a necessity.
