Rochechouart

Pigalle has cleaned up its act in recent years, but the former red-light district is still possessed of a bohemian and quintessentially Parisian spirit. Hôtel Rochechouart, with its Art Deco façade, busy street-level brasserie, and garret-like guest rooms, embodies the neighborhood’s retro charm. The original hotel opened nearly a century ago, and many of its features remain, including the antique elevator, crown molding, and grand marble staircase. But the current iteration, reimagined by the Festen design studio and part of the Orso collection, feels like a modern twist on a classic.

On the top floor, Classique rooms are quaint and compact, with sloping ceilings and striking views of the Sacré Cœur. Instead of a monochromatic or all-white color scheme, the designers leaned into the building’s period character, opting for a palette of ivory, olive green, terracotta, and chocolate brown. The interiors feature decorative details like vintage brass lamps, dark wood headboards, and gilded frames, and the bathrooms, petite with marble sinks and tiled walk-in showers, look straight out of a local pied-à-terre. Apart from the popular-with-locals brasserie, Hôtel Rochechouart has two more highlights: an underground speakeasy-style bar and nightclub and, up on the rooftop with sweeping views over Paris, one of the best open-air bars in town.
