he Santa Barbara wine country may not be as well-established as its northern counterparts, but that just means the possibilities are greater. Here, in between the twin towns of Santa Ynez and Solvang, hotelier Kimberly Walker has transformed a disused 22-room motor lodge into the Hotel Ynez, returning a mid-century gem to something that matches — or even surpasses — its former sheen.The most consequential change — would-be motel renovators, take note — was to replace the parking spaces outside each room with proper patios and landscaping, which now opens onto a central garden beneath a vast oak tree. The rooms themselves bear almost no trace of the motel era, with their whitewashed wooden ceilings and their quietly luxurious furnishings and bedding. At very least, they come with hammocks; some add private yards with fire pits and/or hot tubs, while others have indoor fireplaces or even full kitchens.
A lovely Fifties-vintage swimming pool has been restored to its former glory, and a wealth of indoor and outdoor lounge areas complement the private spaces. Hotel Ynez serves coffee and tea in the mornings, but does without a restaurant or bar — there’s a small market supplying wine and light bites, but for anything more you’ll want to get out and explore, either by car or on one of the hotel’s Linus bicycles.

Check in: 3:00 PM, Check Out 11:00 AM
• The pool is for hotel guests only. Hotel Ynez creates an adult environment, so all guests must be 21 and over to access the pool.
• While Hotel Ynez welcomes guests of all ages, the hotel caters to an adult clientele. All guests are requested to carefully monitor their children so as not to affect the experience of other guests. Please note: guests must be 21+ to access the pool.
• All rooms have a maximum double occupancy. No rollaways, cribs, or pullouts are provided. Non-adherence to this policy may result in a forfeiture of your reservation.
• The property provides one parking space per room. There is nearby street parking available for additional vehicles. EV chargers are for paying guests of Hotel Ynez only. Chargers are first-come, first-serve. Please be mindful of others and move the vehicle when charging is complete. Hotel Ynez is not responsible for any damage or theft to vehicles.
• Front Desk staff is available from 7am - 10pm. If you plan for an after-hours arrival, hotel staff will make check-in arrangements with you directly via the phone number and email address provided at booking. Emergency after-hours help can be reached at 805.344.0104.
• Each room receives one key. Extra keys must be signed out separately and are also subject to the lost key fee. Each lost key is subject to a $250 replacement and door relock fee.
• Keys must be returned by 11am. Late check-out up to 1pm is based on availability and incurs a fee. After 1pm, the guest is subject to the full nights room rate + tax.
• Please be mindful of quiet hours in common areas from 10pm - 9am.
• A valid credit card is required at check-in. An incidental hold of $100 will be placed on your credit card at check-in and released upon check-out. Hotel Ynez does not recommend Debit Cards for use, since this hold will freeze funds in the checking account.
• Dogs are the only pets permitted at the hotel. A fee of $50 per dog (limit 2) per stay will be added to the reservation. Dogs must be on leash at all times and accompanied by the owner at all times. Dogs must not be left alone in rooms at any time during your stay. Failure to adhere to either of these policies could result in a $500 fee per incident.
• Any bookings of 5 or more rooms must be booked as an event. Groups that do not book as an event are subject to cancellation without refund.
• The hotel is a non-smoking facility and smoking or vaping is not permitted in the rooms or on patios. Smoking is restricted to the designated smoking area by lawn and the guest parking lot. Smoking inside could result in a damage assessment of up to $500.
