The key is that it’s in two places at once: in Perivolos, 12 sea-facing suites make up Istoria Beach, while a few miles away in Firostefani, 9 more cave-house suites comprise the caldera-facing Istoria Cliff.This is arguably the most stylish hotel in Santorini, with spaces that effortlessly blend local tradition and handmade textures with clean contemporary design and modern luxuries — all in a color palette that extends beyond the typical white and blue to incorporate rich earth tones and even (shock!) a bit of black. The views are impressive, but the design, by the Athens-based Interior Design Laboratorium, provides plenty of visual interest of its own.
The cliff suites feature outdoor hot tubs or plunge pools, as do the beach suites. And as space is at a premium up on the cliffside, Istoria’s public spaces, including its pool, its spa and its restaurant, serving seasonal Greek fare made with produce from the hotel’s own organic garden, are all found at Istoria Beach.
