Soho

T

he Soho House brand may have gone global, but its heart remains in this West End neighborhood, still haunted by the film and theatre folk who made up the original club’s membership. And Dean Street itself is the very heart of Soho — in fact the flagship Soho House is just four doors down the street from the Dean Street Townhouse.

It’s more a case of synergy than redundancy. The Soho House at 76 Dean Street is full of social spaces, including a private cinema, but no bedrooms. This is where the charming Townhouse fits in. Inside you’ll find a surprising country-house undertone to the atmosphere, both in the common spaces and in the 39 rooms. They range from Tiny to Bigger, all of which understate the matter somewhat; even the smallest are comfortable indeed, especially when supplemented by the Townhouse’s public spaces, and the largest ones find space for luxuries like four-poster beds and freestanding tubs.

Downstairs is a restaurant that’s packed with works by contemporary British artists, and whose tables are packed with Soho House members and other neighborhood locals. Of particular note is the afternoon tea service, a modern alternative to the offerings of some more traditional luxury hotels.
