It’s always been known for its singularly laid-back, laissez-faire atmosphere, and the slogan “a friendly place for nice people” is as true now as it was then. And while today’s Callicoon Hills retains its delightful throwback atmosphere, it’s right at home in the boutique-hotel era of the 21st century.It turns out that the slightly homespun charm that allowed the original Callicoon Hills to be overshadowed by a generation of bigger, grander Catskills resorts is exactly what makes it so memorable, and so inimitable, today. Comforts like air conditioning and swanky subway-tile showers have been added to the accommodations, and Conover Club, the restaurant, is no mere camp cafeteria, but a proper restaurant and bar specializing in modern American comfort food.
