But it’s only after a re-imagining at the hands of Charlap Hyman & Herrero that it became what it is today: a proper luxury boutique hotel on a scale that sets it apart from the region’s farmhouse inns and modernized motor lodges.Its rooms and suites benefit from the contrasts between the brick-and-timber construction, the modern minimalist décor, and the pastoral small-town setting. And with capacity for close to 100 guests, Pocketbook draws enough of a crowd to justify some impressive services, including a café and bar, an art exhibition space, a grab-and-go market, and even a subterranean nightclub. The Baths, set in an adjacent building, offer a moment of relaxation in the collection of steam, cold plunge, and saltwater pools, which can be complemented by time in the fitness studio or spa, while Ambos Restaurant serves New Argentine fare cooked on an open fire from local and seasonal ingredients.
