And its most luxurious hotel, Las Balsas, housed in an elegant wooden lodge right on the lakefront, looks straight out of a fairytale — its facade painted a cheerful cobalt-blue, a quaint private dock jutting out into the water, the whole scene dwarfed by native evergreen trees and the mountains beyond. The hotel, impressively, is just as lovely inside. The look evokes alpine chalet-style elegance with exposed wooden beams, fireplaces built with native stone, and cozy seating areas beside huge windows revealing postcard-like views of the great outdoors.

Every room faces the lake, from light-filled suites in the main building to a newer collection of stilted freestanding villas. All are airy and rustic-chic, featuring high vaulted ceilings, parquet floors, fluffy white duvets, Illy machines, and spacious bathrooms with separate showers and tubs. Las Balsas’ indoor-outdoor hot tub and infinity pool are heated year-round, and walking trails invite a stroll through the woods. A traditional afternoon tea includes an array of gourmet jams, cakes, and pastries, and elevated Patagonian cuisine is served for lunch and dinner. Sailing, hiking, horseback riding, fly fishing, mountain biking, and kayaking are easily arranged onsite.
