The Story
If the hotels in Shoreditch are irreverent and funky, and the hotels in the City are polished and sleek, then you might expect a hotel right on the border between the two neighborhoods to be a bit of both. And in the case of the Sun Street Hotel, that’d be a pretty good guess. Here, behind the carefully preserved façades of six 19th-century Georgian townhouses, is a luxury boutique hotel that’ll look familiar enough to the traditionally minded and modern enough to travelers who seek novelty.
The rooms and suites, in fact, come in two distinct décor schemes: the Classic rooms are designed to match the Georgian heritage of the original buildings, while the Contemporary ones are a better fit for the hotel’s modern addition. Visuals aside, though, they’re as similar as can be, with saturated colors, king beds, chic tiled bathrooms, and the full complement of high-end boutique-hotel comforts. There’s no shortage of spaces for socializing, either, from cocktails at the Sun Street Bar to Peruvian fare at Lima Shoreditch.
